【報告】The Lotus Sutra: Teachings, Transmission and Material Culture of a Sacred Buddhist Text

大英図書館とInternational Dunhuang Project が、2022年11月15日～16日に、シンポジウム”The Lotus Sutra: Teachings, Transmission and Material Culture of a Sacred Buddhist Text”を開催した。
このシンポジウムは、大英図書館に所蔵される『法華経』写本のデジタルアーカイブ化を目的に、大英図書館とInternational Dunhuang Project が、2017年から2022年にかけて取り組んできた”The Lotus Sutra Project”の終了を記念したものであり、その成果紹介を兼ねたシンポジウムである。
二日間にわたったシンポジウムでは、主に敦煌写本や敦煌壁画などを利用して、『法華経』の受容、美術史からの解釈、文献学的研究の成果などが紹介された。
また、二日目の午後には、撮影した写本は合計 793 点、画像は 16,864点に及んだことが報告されるとともに、プロジェクトにおける作業過程の紹介や、デジタルアーカイブ化にあたっての知見や成果が紹介された。
“The Lotus Sutra Project”によって、『法華経』研究や敦煌写本を含む出土文献研究だけでなく、関連領域の研究に従事する研究者に、数多くの貴重な資料が共有されることを感謝したい。
